Chegubard defends RM24mil ring claims
Former PKR central committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin is standing by his allegation that a RM24.4 million diamond ring was brought into the country recently for Rosmah Mansor, the prime minister’s wife.
He said Rosmah had reportedly inspected the arrival of a “natural fancy blue cushion cut diamond ring” at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport cargo section on April 16.
Badrul, better know as Chegubard, has advised Rosmah’s “sycophants” who have been accusing him of slander to stay mum on the matter.
He added that Rosmah’s ardent supporters, in speaking out, have made her “look bad” as they had issued several contradictory statements about the ring, which was allegedly flown in from New York.
He called on the ‘first lady’ to explain her involvement in the purchase of the ring from top jeweller Jacob & Co as her name was allegedly stated in the receiver’s column on a Customs document.
MACC report lodged last month
Chegubard had revealed the ‘evidence’ in Penang before lodging a report at the state branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last month.
“She is neither a Customs officer nor is she a jewellery expert. Why is her name on the receiver’s column of the Customs form?” he queried.
“Rosmah should be the one to come forward and explain this,” added the leader of youth group Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia.
“I suggest that Rosmah’s supporters, who include Umno members and bloggers, to remain quiet or else they would make the situation more difficult for her,” he stressed.
Chegubard was responding to a statement issued by Anwar Ibrahim’s former personal secretary Anuar Shaari who accused the opposition leader of making false allegations about the ring.
Anuar, who made statement in Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia yesterday, challenged Badrul to lodge a police report against Rosmah, who has denied allegations that the ring was purchased by her.
When asked, she refused to entertain the issue, describing it as “another slander”, saying as the PM’s wife it was better for her to focus on people’s issues because they are more important.
Anuar added that Chegubard would not dare take up his challenge as the latter was aware that the ring had nothing to do with Rosmah, but was instead ordered from New York by Maira Nazarbayev.
Maria, is the future mother-in-law of Rosmah and Najib Razak’s daughter Najwa Nooryana, who was recently engaged to Daniyar Nazarbayev, a Kazakhstan government dignitary.
On Sunday, prominent Indonesian daily Kompas has apologised to Najib and his family over an Aug 4 report alleging, among others, that Rosmah had purchased the diamond ring.
The apology also referred to claims that Maira, who has a notorious reputation in Kazakhstan, was linked to the Russian mafia.
Chegubard said Anuar was merely trying to score brownie points with Rosmah by defending her over the multi-million dollar ring controversy.
“Anuar knows the actual situation in Umno – that all decisions indirectly come from Rosmah. He is trying to show his support to attract Rosmah’s attention,” he said.
“He is hoping that he can have a chance to contest a seat in the coming general election,” he added.
According to Chegubard, the “contradictory statements” included revelations by a pro-Umno blogger who revealed new Customs documents claiming that the ring was brought in for a private exhibition.
There were also claims that the ring had left Malaysia and entered Singapore, he alleged, saying he obtained the information from his undisclosed sources.
“But now, Anuar is saying that the ring belongs to Maria… so which version is correct?” he queried.
Customs document ‘credible’
Chegubard said the purpose of lodging the report at the MACC was to prove that the Customs document was “credible”.
Following his report, several pro-Umno bloggers had accused him of “photoshopping” images of the ring and “falsifying” details in the Customs forms.
“But I got to know from my sources that following my report, MACC officers went to KLIA to probe the matter.
“They had detained one A Krishnan for hours over the matter before releasing him at 3am,” he claimed, citing reliable sources.
“My report must be accurate or else why would MACC officers want to probe the matter at KLIA and bring in the officer for questioning?” he asked.
As for initiating legal action against him, Chegubard said it would give him the opportunity to reveal more of Rosmah’s “high priced” jewelleries.
“I am not so arrogant as to say ‘go ahead and sue me’ but if it happens, I will take it as chance to provide more exposes on Rosmah’s costly jewelleries,” he said.
PKR to play off Wan Azizah against Rosmah in new campaign
PKR is pitting its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail against the prime minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor as an alternative role model for Malaysian women to aspire to.
The opposition party’s women’s wing chief Zuraida Kamaruddin launched a six-part series of stories today titled “Cerita Kak Wan” featuring the life and career of a housewife who once helmed the opposition bench in Parliament while raising six schoolgoing children when her husband was stuck in prison.
The Ampang MP told a press conference today that Malaysians, especially those in rural areas, needed to be shown “we have a better role model than the one we’ve got right now” in an apparent dig at Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wife whose tastes in fine jewellery and branded clothes and handbags has been spotlighted. Rosmah’s circle of friends has also been questioned.
Influential Indonesian paper Kompas had earlier this month alleged that Rosmah bought a US$24 million (RM72 million) diamond ring off celebrity New York jeweller Jacob and Co and was close friends with a woman who purportedly had links with the Russian mob.
Datuk Seri Najib Razak has denied his wife bought the US$24 million diamond ring or that his Kazakhstan in-laws are linked to the “Russian mafia” as reported by Kompas.
Kompas has since apologised to the prime minister for its August 4 report but mystery remains why the ring from New York jeweller Jacob & Co. was addressed to Rosmah, according to pictures widely available on the Internet.
Kompas chief editor Rikard Bangun also apologised to Najib and his family over the report although it is understood that the Prime Minister’s Office had used back channels to threaten a suit against the Indonesian daily. However, the daily has not flinched except for the apology.
“Too much Rosmah is not healthy for Malaysia,” quipped the party’s chief strategist Rafizi Ramli today at the launch of the Kak Wan campaign.
A total of 35,000 sets of pamphlets on Dr Wan Azizah will be distributed, starting in Selangor, as part of a nationwide campaign to reach out to women voters ahead of the coming general polls, widely expected to be called later this year.
Isu cincin RM24j: Rosmah kata fitnah

Diamond ring documents cannot be trusted’
A PKR leader says the documents are riddled with contradictory information, and wants Rosmah to clear the air.
The documents claiming that the diamond ring allegedly acquired by Rosmah Mansor was brought to Malaysia for a private exhibition is riddled with contradictory information, according to a PKR leader.
Rembau PKR chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin said the latest revelation cannot be trusted and did not mean that the prime ministers wife was off the hook.
This does not mean that Rosmah can now go free, she still has a lot of explanation to do, he added.
Last week, Badrul filed a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after news broke that Rosmah allegedly purchased the ring, worth RM73 million, from New York-based fine jeweller Jacob & Co.
The reports were based on the screenshots of customs records, which stated that Rosmah had inspected the arrival of a natural fancy blue cushion cut diamond ring at the KLIA cargo on April 16.
Khairy not behind it
Previously, Badrul also claimed that customs officer A Krishnan, who was in charge of clearing the ring, had been detained by the MACC.
Following this, new customs documents surfaced claiming that the ring was brought in for a private exhibition. It also claimed that the ring was worth RM24 million.
Meanwhile, Badrul also called on Rosmah to explain the allegation that she purchased a diamond bangle and diamond watch from Jacob & Co, worth nearly RM1.5 million.
He said that while the opposition and public have demanded answers, Rosmah, however, continued to be mum.
Badrul also denied the allegation by several pro-Umno bloggers that Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was behind the diamond expose.
Rosmah’s Diamond Ring – more questions
If Immigration Records of Mongolians entering the country can be “erased”. If there was no “investigation” on the mystery and “disciplinary action” taken, what is there that can not be done in Malaysia.
Definitely, someone is willing to create another set of records to show the controversial ring is “being sent” to Singapore. But why Singapore and not Jacob’s & Co in New York where the ring originated from? Could it be Singapore is nearer than New York?
More questions that need answers? But will we get it?
Did Rosmah Mansor pay RM24.4 million or US$24.4 million for a humungous tax-free diamond ring ordered from New York’s Jacob & Co?
Yes, it makes a tremendous difference because if it was US$24.4 million, that would mean the wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak blew something like RM73 million on a piece of jewellery.
It might be Rosman’s own business but where she did get so much money from, and did Najib know about it? Did the PM authorize Customs to exempt the ring from taxes and why?
Additionally, why should Najib do such a thing when he has been telling Malaysians to tighten their belts and prepare for the next round of price hikes coming soon? Also, does he earn so much that his wife can splurge RM73 million on a ring, no matter how equisite?
Those are the questions gaining pace in town since PKR Rembau leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission last week, urging the agency to investigathe the first couple over the ring.
“Our investigations show the ring is RM24.4 million ringgit nor US dollar? But that is already a lot of money, and if Rosmah says it is not, then for sure MACC must investigate all the more,” Badrul told Malaysia Chronicle.
“As PM, how can Najib earn so much that Rosmah can just spend so much money on just one ring, no matter how beautiful and tempting it looks. Malaysian prime mnisters earn well but if they are not corrupt, there is no way they can make so much money.”
The PKR Youth leader also said that so far, the MACC has not come back to him and neither has the first couple.
Last week, Badrul had challenged Rosmah to deny the ring belonged to her. But she has kept mum so far and is due to visit the Pope in the Vatican with Najib in tow beginning Monday.
What BN bloggers say – BIG LIE!
Meanwhile, UMNO bloggers have poured scorn on the three computer screen visuals received and exposed by Badrul last week. The screenshots apparently taken from the Customs’ database show the existence of the ring and its importation from Jacob & Co, as Badrul had alleged.
However, to the BN bloggers, it was a “big lie” that the ring was bought by Rosmah using her own savings as some netizens have alleged. They said the owner of the ring is Jacob & Co.
The firm had brought the ring into Malaysia for a “private exhibition” at a “private residence of a VVIP in Kuala Lumpur sometime between the 17th and 19th of April, 2011″, they took pains to explain.
“It is NOT TRUE that the RM24 million ring owned by Jacob & Co was PURCHASED by any of the VVIPs who were present at the “private exhibition’. The RING IS NOW WITH ITS RIGHTFUL OWNERS – JACOB & Co in New York – Thank You,” said one well-known pro-BN Facebook user.
“It is a BIG LIE that the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor had purchased the ring with her savings as being propagated by some politicians and their desperate lackeys.”
Fine jewellery not taxable?
The posting also insisted that the ‘Natural Fancy Blue Gray Cushion Cut Diamond Ring’ was taken out of the country on April 20, four days after arrival on the 16th.
“So it is a fact that the much talked about ring was brought into the country. It is also a fact that the regional agent for Jacob & Co did use Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s name (it says ‘inspection by’) on the Customs declaration form. It is a fact that such fine jewellery, as this diamond ring OWNED by Jacob & Co, IS NOT a taxable item under the Malaysian LAW,” said the posting.
“These Opposition politicians are so desperate that they have even created a FAKE Utusan Malaysia front-page montage. p/s This is not the first time such nasty ‘super-imposed’ pictures are used to discredit the Government and those associated with it. The last time PKR’s now BATU Member of Parliament Tian Chua ADMITTED superimposing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s picture as part of their dirty political campaign to discredit Najib.”
Tupperware-party equivalent of the rich and famous?
However, despite the detailed and passionate explanation, PKR’s Badrul – also known as Chegubard – was unfazed.
“So what, they can say anything, who cares? What we want is for the MACC to do a neutral and fair test. If Rosmah is innocent, well and good for her. If guilty, then she and Najib must be punished. It is as simple as that, nothing personal at all,” said Badrul.
According to PKR vice president Tian Chua, there was something fishy about the ‘VVIP’ exhibition.
“This is the first I have heard of a private VVIP showing. I mean, is this a tupperware party or what? Does it mean that if the ring was sold, the so-called patron and ‘inspector’ of the ring, which is Rosmah Mansor, would get a commission from Jacob & Co?” Tian told Malaysia Chronicle.
“If not, then why is she going out of her way to help them sell the ring, does she have shares in Jacob & Co, is she getting some sort of benefit. I think these are very valid questions that she and the PM should answer. Neither she or Najib should make use of their position to make monetary gain for themselves and if they have done so, have they declared tax on that income?”
Rings of questions over Rosmah
First a ring, than the bangle. Could there be an expensive watch as well?. Jacob & Co do have the so called “Zebra Watches“. We would not be surprised if the “Zebra Watches” is part of Rosmah Mansor’s collection.
Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers are asking where and how, if true, did the prime minister’s wife get her alleged RM73 million ring. … Similar to Taib Mahmud’s case and controversy involving the allegations, MACC and the rakyat, we think the matter will be dragged on and will never get to see the light of the day.
This seems to be a message to the Malaysian Government and MACC. Go after the real big fish and not small frys.
Over to you MACC and AG. We also anticipate phamplets depicting “zebra” rings, bangles and watches will be banned in GE13′s campaign, similar to the word “Altantuya” which is deemed seditious on ad-hoc basis by PDRM and Special Branch.
Prime Ministers wife Rosmah Mansors alleged RM73 million diamond ring has left many in Pakatan Rakyat curious.
PAS Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar asked how Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak got his hands on the funds needed to buy the ring.
If the allegation is true, where did the money to buy this blue diamond come from? he asked.
The ring was supposedly supplied by New York-based jewellers Jacob & Co.
Pictures showing the ring moving through customs at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in April this year were released online this week.
The pictures, which first appeared on the pro-Pakatan blog Milo Suam, showed that the ring was last inspected by Rosmah.
Former PKR Youth leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin (also known as Chegubard) lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the jewel.
Mahfuz said that Rosmah had no official governmental position, and would have to rely on her husband, Najib, for the purchase of the ring.
However, Mahfuz pointed out that Najib could not have saved enough to buy the ring from the combined salaries of his two portfolios that of prime minister and finance minister.
Is there another party involved? Mahfuz asked, and wondered if the ring may have been a gift to the prime ministers wife in exchange for some unknown government favour.
PKR Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said that the onus of investigation rested with the MACC.
I call upon the MACC to investigate this matter thoroughly, and verify claims made regarding the amounts involved, she said.
Nurul also questioned Najibs policies, introduced during his current stay as the prime minister, and connected them to Rosmahs ring.
Malaysians will be dealt a severe blow if policies introduced by the prime minister at our hour of need are merely to fulfil his wifes personal desires, she added.
When contacted, DAP MPs appeared guarded over the alleged ring saying that they wanted to wait for more confirmation on the matter before commenting.
Kita bimbang berlaku penyelewengan.
Sementara blogger lain, Semut and Papan Kekunci menyiarkan gambar Rosmah memakai gelang tangan berlian seberat 65 karat berharga RM1.65 juta.
FLOM Rosmah’s 3,424-diamond bangle cost RM1.65 mil
The bangles allegedly owned by Rosmah Mansor is worth more than US$500,000, according to fine jewellers Jacob & Co. …. surely something is wrong some where and base on PM Najib’s salary, definitely RM1.65 million for a bangle is out of his rich. That is only a bangle! How much would the ear-rings, rings and necklace cost? So whenever Rosmah dress up, she must be wearing with her jewellery worth more than RM10 million.
The pair of bangles with 3,424 diamond stones, allegedly owned by Rosmah Mansor, is worth RM1.65 million, according to fine jewellers Jacob & Co.
In an e-mail communique to FMT, the New-York based jewellers said the price for the pair of bangles is US$540,000 (RM1.65 million).
Jacob & Co said each 18k white gold bangle is fitted with 1,712 diamond stones and weighed 137.31 grams.
Each bangle is studded with 751 stones 30.00ct of black diamonds and 34.50ct 961 stones of fancy intense white diamonds, the company added.
Yesterday, a pro-Pakatan Rakyat blogger published a photograph of Rosmah sporting a pair of bangles which looked strikingly similar to Jacob & Cos Zebra Safari collection.
Yesterday, bloggers had claimed that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razaks wife had acquired a diamond ring from the same jewellers, worth a whopping RM73 million.
The bloggers identified the item as a Natural Fancy Blue Gray Cushion Cut Diamond Ring. It had supposedly passed through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport customs in April this year.
Screenshots of the alleged customs computer displays also revealed that the ring did not have import duties imposed on it.
Yesterday, a NGO filed a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang over the matter.
MACC report filed over diamond ring
A report has been filed with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the RM74 million ring allegedly acquired by the prime ministers wife, Rosmah Mansor.
The report was filed by pro-Pakatan Rakyat NGO Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) president Badrul Hisham Shaharin.
Badrul said MACC had a public duty to ensure that Malaysians dont suffer from the Filipino Imelda Marcos syndrome.
He urged the commission to carry out an immediate open investigation into the report, adding that there was an abundance of evidence.
We dont want a repeat of the Philippine fiasco where the self-styled First Lady Imelda cleaned public funds for selfish lavish spending, added the Rembau PKR division chief.
Yesterday, pro-Pakatan bloggers claimed that the ring known as Natural Fancy Blue Gray Cushion Cut Diamond Ring was sent to Rosmah by the New York-based fine jewellers Jacob & Co in April this year.
The ring allegedly passed through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport customs and was cleared by a customs operations manager known as A Krishnan.
Screenshots of the alleged customs computer displays also revealed that the ring did not have import duties imposed on it. The same display also indicated the value of the ring to be US$24.4 million.
Today, another blogger published photographs of Rosmah wearing bangles that appeared strikingly similar to those made by Jacob & Co, which industry experts claimed could cost a fortune.
Dont sweep this under the carpet
Meanwhile, Badrul challenged Rosmah to publicly deny the allegations. Where did she get that much of money? She must clear her name, he demanded.
He also questioned whether Rosmahs husband, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, abused his position as finance minister to exempt the ring from taxes.
Badrul claimed that his probe revealed that Rosmah had a penchant for Jacob & Cos luxury merchandises, such as jewellery, handbags and designer dresses.
Rosmah was seen using these items on many occasions, he claimed.
State PKR Youth deputy chief Syed Mikael Rizal Aidid called on MACC not to sweep things under the carpet as usual.
He accused MACC of always dragging its feet on graft reports that were lodged against high- profile individuals.
Citing the French probe into the explosive submarine scandal, he said MACC had only moved to execute its public duty when outside forces started to probe the matter.
