Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) women wing is calling for inquest into the death of the young girl in Engkilili.
At a press conference here yesterday, its national vice president Voon Shiak Ni said the women wing was taking the case seriously as they claimed the girl had died mysteriously and in a macabre turn of event her body exhumed and placed at the cemetery naked.
What actually happened to the girl? Her death and the story behind her pregnancy until now is a mystery, said Voon.
She said some concerned Engkilili residents had come forward to express their concern to PKR and they appealed to the relevant authorities to get to the bottom of the matter.
Based on sources, Voon pointed out that the girl was five months pregnant when she was sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for delivery on May 16.
She said the baby died because of immature birth, while the girls condition was critical and she was at the intensive care unit (ICU) after the birth of the baby. Then, she was discharged but died on June 2.
She was buried and later on June 5, her body was found lying naked on her grave. We believe that something was not right about the whole scenario and the subsequent event has led to some suspicions.
PKR women wing is calling for an inquest into the death of the girl, said Voon.
She said the women wing had approached the director of Welfare Department, but the reply was that no information could to be divulged without a directive from the director of SGH.
Voon said they later met Medical Department deputy director Dr Junaidi, who said that he would check the matter and informed them if the hospital had lodged a police report on the case.
In normal circumstances, the hospital authority has the obligation to report any crime related to anyone who had reported for medical care at the hospital, said Voon.
She added PKR had called up CID Chief here but could not get any information.
Pregnancy of a 15-year-old girl meant that statutory rape had happened. It is a negligence of the hospital administrators if no police report had been made, said Voon.
She also questioned why the girl was discharged if she was still sick.
She said PKR would follow up the case with the hospital and police.
Justice must be done for the girl. A young life had perished mysteriously, she said and pointed out that PKR women wing would make a trip to Engkilili to check the matter.
Meanwhile, she said the party would hold a blood donation drive on July 23 but the venue would be decided later.
