Ali Biju today urged angry natives in Ulu Niah who are affected by the eviction order issued by a Sarawak administrative officer, Serbillah Dahlan, to show their angst at the ballot box.

He also urged them not to be afraid of ?death threats? which were scare-mongering tactics of the ruling Barisan Nasional.

?Do not be afraid to vote against BN, you will not die. Look at the people of Krian in Saratok: they did not die by voting me as the PKR elected representative, ? said Biju, who is Krian assemblyman.

Biju was speaking to 700 residents of Rumah Sigan who performed a ?sandau hari? miring ceremony seeking the assistance of the natives? gods to help them in their ?war? against their evictors, Medan Mustika, an oil palm company.

The residents, whose case against Medan Mustika is pending an appeal in the court, are aghast that they have been ordered by Dahlan to leave their homes of over 40 years.

Said the tuai rumah Sigan Anak Inal: ?Where will we go? we have no other place.

?There are no more available lands in and around this area. All lands belong to other people.?

Referring to their court case against Medan Mustika, Inal said that although they lost the first round of the court case, they have they are currently appealing the Miri High Court?s decision.

He said there was no order made by the court directing them to vacate the area.

?There are still hopes for us as we have not exhausted our legal efforts,? he added.

?Pakatan needs three rural seats?
Sigan?s optimism, however, is tempered with sceptism.

Medan Mustika is a subsidiary of WTK, a company closely linked to Chief Minister Taib Mahmud. The ?influential? company allegedly also has several provisional leases to plant oil palm and licences to extract timber in and outside the area.

Biju, on his part, appeared to offer Sigan and his community a ?practical? solution.

?The easiest way to solve your problems and other similar problems affecting other longhouses is for you to vote out the BN government in the coming election.

?If you go to court to settle your problems, it will take time for the court to make a decision. The best way is to vote out the BN government.?

?We are confident that the next government will be a Pakatan Rakyat government. What we need from Sarawak is to win at least three rural parliamentary seats.

?I am certain we can win at least six seats in the urban constituencies,? Biju added.
