The fire victims of Kpg Sealine have been given a special treat of something to sweeten their hearts when they received from the hands of Zulhaidah hot bean porridge at the Red Crescent Centre here recently.

The delicious sweet porridge made from red bean are prepared by the PKR Youth Secretary in a small gesture to help the fire victims who lost their homes and personal belongings during the Sunday blaze last week.

The handouts which are sufficient to treat some 50 people were handed over to Puan Jenny of the Miri Red Crescent Centre under the witness of social worker Chong Kon Fatt and fire victims representatives.

In an appeal in aid of the fire victims, Zulhaidah has asked for the generosity of the public to channel more donations in kinds of money or foods. “Lets pool in more funds to ease the hardship of the victims,” she says.

It is not question of whether MACC and Abu Kassim Mohamed walking his talk!

It is a foregone conclusion that MACC and PM Najib will just sweep the complaints lodged against Taib Mahmud this far under the carpet.

We are quite sure Sarawakians are very much aware this will likely happen and that in itself is a more convincing victory than having MACC investigating and coming up with statements “That there is no evidence of abuse of power and corruption”.

In any event there is still undecided legal cases involving Taib Mahmud and Malaysiakini! Again this shows how the Judiciary have been bias insofar as legal cases involving Barisan Nasional Leaders is concerned.

Bekas mufti Perlis Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin menyatakan kekesalannya terhadap kenaikan harga “5-dalam-1? bagi tujuan penjimatan subsidi sedangkan pada masa yang sama terdapat pelbagai pembaziran.

“…di sana berbagai lagi pembaziran yang lain, tiba-tiba rakyat awam menjadi mangsa, subsidi mereka pula yang dirampas,” katanya.

“Kenangilah orang-orang kampung yang susah, ibu bapa yang terhad pendapatan mereka dan anak-anak miskin yang akan termangsa dari setiap kenaikan harga barang.

“Mereka tiada istana mewah, tiada kereta mewah, tiada hidangan mewah.”

Tengah malam kelmarin, kerajaan menaikkan harga petrol, diesel, gula dan Petroleum Gas Cecair (LPG). Langkah tiba-tiba itu ternyata mengundang kemarahan banyak pihak, terutamanya pembangkang.

Menulis dalam blognya semalam, Dr Mohd Asri menempelak “golongan bangsawan dan pembesar yang bersenang-lenang dengan kemewahan yang telah merampas subsidi rakyat”.

Sedangkan, menurut artikel berjudul ‘Menangisi kenaikan harga barang’ itu lagi, orang miskin kini menangis ekoran harga makanan yang semakin tinggi’

One Shocking Report After Another

Baru Bian inspects Ridgeford Property's Flagship Development, 50 Bolsver Street, London

Sarawak’s PKR Leader Baru Bian has expressed his “utter disgust” at the extent of the foreign properties owned by the Chief Minister and his family, as revealed in a series of recent exposes by Sarawak Report. ”For us it has been shocking as we read one report after another”, he said.

The opposition leader also explained that the information, which has been kept hidden until now, has served to further highlight the “huge disparity” between the Chief Minister and ordinary people in Sarawak, who are amongst the poorest in Malaysia, despite the natural wealth of the state.

Bian, who inspected some of the properties owned by the Taibs in a recent visit to London, nevertheless fears that the billions of ringgit of assets uncovered by Sarawak Report in Canada, the USA, London and Australia are only the “tip of the iceberg” when it comes to the Taibs’ stolen wealth. His challenge to the Chief Minister is uncompromising, “Taib’s silence since the first report implies there is a strong degree of truth to these reports. There has been no response from him yet. We want a denial and if it is not true he needs to take action. If not, there is an irresistible conclusion that he is definitely the man, The Godfather, behind the source”.

Our priority is to get back this stolen wealth
Sarawak Report has made clear it has documented evidence to back up all its revelations about the Taibs’ property and that the vast majority of the information is available to members of the public online, through official registries and court documents. This evidence will be made available to bodies such as the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) on request.

Meanwhile, Baru Bian emphasises that one of the first priorities for PKR on taking power would be to gain restitution of this wealth. “This is the wealth of the people and just as restitution has been done in the Philippines and Indonesia, it must be delivered here in Sarawak”. The PKR leader also pointed out that in China, the country on which the Chief Minister is relying to support his much-criticised dam building exercise, any embezzlers from the State are shot.

Where is the MACC?
In a final comment Bian issued a weary plea to the MACC. “All my long-held suspicions [about the Taibs' wealth] are now confirmed and it all leads to the Godfather. The MACC must take action immediately because it involves the huge wealth of the state. He cannot remain Chief Minister”. The PKR leader however acknowledged that the anti-corruption agencies have a dismal record under the present regime.

“If we want to do anything about this we have to change who is in power” he said, calling for unity and focus among all opposition forces in Sarawak.
