Talking to the Malays
So at last we are going to have a general election after all. The months of waiting have taken its toll on most people, but it’s important that they continue to have energy and spirit and to work hard to make this GE a meaningful one.
This week I want to talk to the Malays. They form the biggest block of voters and to them I say, this is your chance to have a new government. A new government will enable you to make a comparison with the one we have now. You have been told time and again that no one besides Umno/BN can govern and protect you, but wouldn’t it be better for you to try to find out for yourself? How can we know if Pakatan would be worse than Umno if we do not give them a chance?
You have to be brave and not let others bully you with fear and intimidation. The opposition parties have more Malays than BN so they will not harm you. They have worked hard and deserve a chance. For all you know, you may get better schools, better teachers for your children (as they may devote more time to teaching than politicking) and better security from the police and the army. Even your household income may improve as there will be more for the government to share with less corrupt leaders at the helm.
You will not lose if you vote for the opposition. If the opposition gets stronger because of your support but BN still wins, then you will get more cash handouts than they had promised. Money and projects have only been given to you because the opposition was strong — if the opposition had been weak, you wouldn’t have gotten the BR1M 1.0 and BR1M 2.0. It makes sense to vote for the opposition if you want more from the BN. Learn to value your votes to improve your livelihood.
Umno will use all the scare tactics in its arsenal, like telling you that Islam will no longer become the official religion and that the Malay Rulers will disappear if the opposition wins. You should ask your children and grandchildren if any of these can come true. Even they will tell you that this is all nonsense, just fear mongering by those desperate to cling to power when everything else has failed.
The Malays need to change their loyalty and support PAS as their protector. PAS is a Malay party just like Umno. The difference is that PAS has never been entrusted to rule the country. If the Malays can give Umno 50 years to govern, surely it’s not too much to give PAS at least five years. The opportunity for PAS to rule (in coalition, of course, with PKR and the DAP) is an historic moment for the Malays to seize. If PAS is not able to govern well then the people can always go back to Umno. Choice is what the Malays need for their own wellbeing — they have not had it in the last 50 years.
I know it’s easy to persuade the Malays to support their leaders and not go against them. They will be reminded of the cash and all the help that’s been given to them. They will be told to be grateful. They will be told that BN and the government are one and the same so if you want more from the government, then only BN leaders can help you.
Again, I urge you to talk to your children and grandchildren. The monies/salaries that BN leaders give in exchange for votes do not belong to them, but to the people of this country. It’s wrong for leaders to bribe you for votes. They have not been sincere to you. It’s not wrong for you to vote for the leader/party of your choice and still keep the money. In fact, if you vote for the opposition then BN will have to give you more next year. Either way, you win by supporting the opposition. —
Please don’t jail me for the following reasons, Dr M appeals to PR
Perhaps anticipating another political tsunami that could spell the end of Barisan Nasional’s rule at the coming polls, former UMNO strongman Dr Mahathir Mohamad has listed several reasons why he does not deserve the fate of fallen dictators such as Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak.
Responding to veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang’s suggestion that Mahathir had been at the forefront of the campaign to ensure Pakatan Rakyat does not come to power due to anxieties over his future life, Mahathir said his only fear was being put behind bars on “fabricated charges”.
“That I am innocent would be irrelevant. What is important is Kit Siang?s satisfaction at seeing me behind bars and more,” wrote the former prime minister on his blog.
He then went on to list reasons why he did not deserve imprisonment.
Among others, Mahathir said that:
He had always been careful not to abuse the power as PM and chose to step down from power (on paper, Mahathir retired in 2003).
He has already been questioned by the police and the AG?s office several times and nothing could be “pinned on me”.
He has not “thrown people into jail for personal reasons” or “benefitted personally” from government projects.
Gifts to him had been transfered to government “including a score of expensive cars”.
He had not allowed his children to do business with the Government or stand as candidates in elections while in office.
His money now is savings from his salary of 29 years.
Except for his son Mirzan, his children did not get any scholarships.
He owns not many shares, other than 200 Malayan Tobacco shares bought “long before I joined the Government”, apart from unit trusts issued by PNB and state governments and in a pharmacy he set up as a doctor in Alor Star.
That is Dr Mahathir Mohammad! The man dubbed “Father of Modern Corruption”. The man that divides the Muslim-Malay Community. The man responsible for driving many retired civil servants to support Pakatan Rakyat for what they term as “Unislamic” the things that he did to Anwar Ibrahim in Sodomy I. The man who gave Taib Mahmud unlimited powers to plunder Sarawak’s resources.
Many Malaysian’s just love to see him go or silently pray that he will keep his mouth shut!

Perutusan khas Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail
Allahuakbar! Allahuakbar! Allahuakbar! Walillahilhamd!…
Eid Mubarak!

Selamat Merdeka Raya 2011
The Muslim celebration of Aidilfitri will begin tomorrow, according to an announcement made by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Datuk Syed Danial Syed Ahmad this evening.
“In adherence to the command of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the consent of the rulers, I hereby declare that the date for Hari Raya Puasa (Aidilfitri) has been set for Tuesday, August 30 2011,” he said during the announcement broadcast on Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
Aidilfitri marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which began this year on August 1, and the start of Syawal in the Islamic calendar.
Jangan halang kaum lain jika bantu umat Islam
Not right for Muslims to shun help from other faiths
Muslims should not discourage others from giving aid to poor Muslims as it is incumbent upon all to help those in need, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
“We should not stop… anyone, any race, any religious denominations, from undertaking or taking any initiative to assist anyone,” the opposition leader told reporters at the PKR headquarters here.
Churches have asked that they be given the freedom to help the poor regardless of race and creed, amid allegations that Christians were trying to convert Muslims through welfare work.
The issue arose after Selangor religious authorities raided a thanksgiving dinner earlier this month at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) after receiving a tip-off that Muslims there were being proselytised.
Selangor religious councillor Datuk Hasan Ali announced yesterday that the state government has set up a “faith rescue unit”, or Unit Selamat Aqidah, to look into problems faced by poor Muslims that may lead them to forsake their religion.
The unit will work with the Selangor Zakat Board and voluntary organisations concerned about the issue, adding that the board will name officials who will process applications for aid.
Muslims who take aid from churches and Christian organisations have complained of the difficulty in getting disbursements from zakat (Islamic alms) offices.
But Anwar cautioned today that efforts to ease the doling out of zakat payments to the needy should not only be pursued as a reaction to Christian efforts.
“It should not be a reaction to the initiative of others… We have the means, we have the resources. Just do it,” he said.
He added that state zakat funds must be managed transparently to ensure that aid meant for the poor reaches them instead of billions being lost to alleged corruption within the system. – Malaysian Insider
Hulubalang UMNO perlu disalahkan, bukan sahaja Najib
– Malaysia Chronicle
Selamat Hari Raya Peliwat 2.0′ and ‘Justice for Saiful’
A grioup of around 40 men held a mini but noisy protest against Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim near the front entrance to the Jalan Duta court complex on Thursday.
The protesters held banners in support of sodomy complainant Saiful Bukhari Azlan, with the words ‘Selamat Hari Raya Peliwat 2.0′ and’Justice for Saiful’. Dressed mostly in yellow T-shirts, the group also shouted anti-Anwar slogans.
Guess from whom?
It wasn’t difficult to surmise that this was another UMNO-linked group out to attack Anwar, whom the some of party’s top leadership fears because of his past influence over the Malay electorate and the high chances that he will again find favour with the community. Saiful was a PKR party worker when he alleged the sexual assault, but before that he was an UMNO student leader and his dad an UMNO stalwart.
Malaysians have made up their minds on the case

Nonetheless, the distraction from the yellow-clad group hardly caused a stir, with most Malaysians having already made up their minds on the case that has gripped the nation since mid 2008.
“I don’t want to comment on the case but sodomy or homosexuality is an individual preference. As a parent, I don’t want my children to be gay but if they grow up to be, how can I shut the door on them. This is something that we should all think about although it is not easy,” a man who only wished to be called Chong told Malaysia Chronicle. Chong was in the court complex to transact some personal matters and had stopped to look at the group’s commotion.
“I think it is like 1998. All over again, so we all know was behind that and now people say it is the current prime minister. I think there is too much political rivalry. We should political competition not war. It is like in the market, all the stalls compete for business, but we don’t burn or throw faeces at another stallholder,” Azizi Kamaruddin, who sells plastic bags at a wet market in Selangor, told Malaysia Chronicle.
Losing credibility as a government and as a political party
Simple words of wisdom and perhaps commonplace but according to pundits, this was why Prime Minister Najid Razak and his UMNO party should confront the reality that the masses – even in the rural areas – are no longer so gullible. Or lose complete credibility as a government and political engine.
In the end, Najib’s biggest downfall will be own failure to chalk progress for the nation especially in things economic, they said. They also believe he has been badly advised and that jailing Anwar would surely boomerang.
Anwar himself has said he does not expect a fair trial and that the entire issue was due to his political enemies trying to keep him down. Now 64, the Opposition Leader has also accused Saiful of “lying through his teeth”.
“He has also been a key UMNO student operative, having undergone the rigorous training conducted by the Biro Tats Negara of the Prime Minister’s Department. And here I was a 60-year-old man with a history of back injury who had undergone a major back surgery holding no position of power. If indeed I could have exercised any kind of undue influence or mental pressure on him, this could have been easily neutralized by a quick phone call to his connections. As regards the fear of physical harm, it would take a great stretch of the imagination to suggest that I could pose any physical harm to him,” said Anwar.
“This entire process is nothing but a conspiracy by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak to send me into political oblivion by attempting once again to put me behind bars. Najib Razak is doing the same thing as his mentor did, which is to employ all means within his power through the media, the police, the Attorney General and the judiciary in order to subvert the course of justice and to take me out of the political equation.”
Letter to Suhakam
However, Saiful and his dad are stcking to their story. Earlier this month, Azlan Mohd Lazim wrote to the Malaysian Human Rights Commission or Suhakam to investigate the circumstances that caused delay in the sodomy trial.
In his letter, Azlan said he believed Saiful had a right to trial within a reasonable period. Coincidentally, the letter sparked a rash of UMNO-linked groups to ‘speak up’ for Saiful.
“GAPS is of the opinion that Suhakam, as a free and independent national human rights institution, is the best platform to advise Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to speed up the case,” NST had reported Selangor Anti-Irregularities Federation (GAPS) chairman Hamidzun Khairuddin as saying.
Anwar was accused of sodomising Saiful in June 2008 at a plush condo in Kuala Lumpur. He has denied the charges. – Malaysia Chronicle
We need more leaders like Nik Aziz, Guan Eng
More Malays joining DAP is good news for Malaysia, especially Pakatan Rakyat, as such a development will spell an end to UMNO’s racial politics, said PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu .
“If there are a big number of Malays in DAP, racial issues cannot be used anymore by UMNO. We have no problem if there are Malays who want to join DAP instead of PAS or PKR, as long as the goal is to bring down tyrannical rulers,” he was quoted as saying by DAP’s Bahasa Malaysia news portal, Roketkini.
Mat Sabu however said that in a democracy, it was entirely up to one’s instinct to choose which party to join.
Saying ties between DAP and PAS had strengthened due to a common fight for justice, Mat Sabu praised DAP’s transparency and said this was shown by its secretary general Lim Guan Eng in his administration of Penang.
“This is very different from the states under the control of UMNO and Barisan Nasional,” Mat Sabu told a fundraising dinner event in Petaling Jaya last night.
“In DAP and PAS, there are good people, there are not so good people. There are more good people than no so good people. In PAS, we have great leaders like Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat. He is someone who puts the people first, develop the society and not concerned with personal wealth.
“Someday, we want more leaders like Nik Aziz and Guan Eng,” he said. – Harakahdaily
